Each year the National Garden Bureau, a nonprofit organization that promotes gardening, selects one annual, one perennial, one bulb and one edible crop as their “Year of the” crop. Explore their choices for this year.
Year of the Tulip
The true sign of spring! To enjoy Tulips in the spring, you must have an autumnal mindset. Tulips are planted in the fall as they require a dormancy period, when the leaves and flowers begin to develop inside the bulb.
There is an amazing amount of heights, colors and bloom times to enjoy with Tulips. The various colors signify different emotions, such as red signifies love and purple signifies loyalty.
English Gardens also sells fresh-cut tulip bunches. Enjoy these beauties in your home or office during the winter and spring.
Year of the Calibrachoa
Calibrachoa, or Million Bells, is an annual available in the spring. They’ve become popular due to their beautiful appearance in hanging baskets and container gardens. Originating in Brazil, the Calibrachoa was initially part of the Petunia genus. More recently, it has formed its own genus and the range of colors has expanded.
Calibrachoa is highly drought tolerant and deadheads itself.

Nutritionists are constantly encouraging everyone to eat more purple foods, such as beets, to improve their health. Also, Pantone chose purple as their color of the year for 2018.
