Little Miss and I had great fun making memorial stones for our beloved cat, Violet. Every now and then she will ask when Violet is coming home from the doctor and it is so very hard to explain the death of a pet to a 2 year old, but then she will answer her own question with, “No, she’s up in heaven”, then she goes on to talk about something else, as I am the one tearing up.
We turned this sad time into something fun to make for the garden. We went to the store and picked out some little trinkets that we thought Violet would like and decided to make stepping stones for her.
This project was a lot easier than I had anticipated, with a few foil pans and a bag of cement along with our trinkets, we were ready to go. As LMD (Little Miss’ Daddy) mixed the cement for us, we sorted our trinkets, Little Miss wanted them all for her stone, but only so much will fit in a 9inch cake pan. She had a blast nestling them into the wet cement.
After letting our creations dry for 3-4 days we were ready to place them in the garden. Little Miss loves stepping on all stepping stones in the garden but she realizes that these are stones just for Violet. A few years ago I purchased a “Frosted Violet” Heuchera, so we thought next to it would be a perfect place for our stones.
