English Gardens opened its doors in 1954 with a single store in Dearborn Heights. Today, several second generation owners oversee the day-to-day operations of six retail stores and a full-service, award-winning landscape design and installation company. This family-owned business ranks among the top nursery business retailers in the nation.
Now, 63 years later and English Gardens is still a pillar in the community. The secret to our success and the foundation of the company is built around people who love people and plants.
“The customers–they’re why I love what I do,” says Kim Milewski, English Gardens Ann Arbor General Manager. “It’s the customers who come back, know your name and tell you how you helped them in the past. It’s the customers who you feel a connection with, the ones who feel comfortable enough to share part of their life. The ones that remember you year after year and come back looking for you. They are why we are here.” “Every spring is like a family reunion. Every corner I turn, I notice a familiar and friendly face. I really enjoy being able to connect with my customers on a personal level,” agrees Jodi Ghedotte, English Gardens West Bloomfield General Manager.
Our bond with the community continues to strengthen due to our ongoing commitment to create a family atmosphere that’s fun and rewarding to shop, work and do business in.
“I enjoy working for English Gardens because I’ve always been treated like family by the owners. Some have even kidded that I’ve been adopted to the family. I try to instill that in my staff, as well,” claims Matt Borden, English Gardens Dearborn Heights General Manager. Matt has been with English Gardens for over 43 years!
We are excited to celebrate our 63rd birthday and look forward to the many years ahead.
