Designing the holiday light display at the Village of Rochester Hills is a year-long process that begins the day after the mall’s annual lighting ceremony.
The design team reviews the current project and starts developing ideas for the following year. Buyers are introduced to new trends and products in January, and the team brings their ideas to the client in late winter. The village began using LED years several years ago. The colors are brilliant and they’ve been a huge energy saver.
Every few years a new color combination is introduced. This year, it’s a custom color combination of sapphire and Caribbean blue to the overhead lighting, runway trees, and crosswalk trees.
The perimeter trees will be lit with amethyst purple. The community tree in Fountain Park will have the same emerald green, purple amethyst, and sapphire blue as last year; however, we are adding purple lit orbs for a pop. The remaining trees in both Fountain and Festival Parks will have that custom combination of emerald green, purple amethyst, and sapphire blue. Warm white LED lights will decorate the street lights along the shops.
Lighting on the mall begins at the end of September. Crews install more than 300,000 lights and make sure that everything is tried, tested, and ready for the 16th annual Light the Village ceremony on November 17.
