Senior Designer Sterling Weber works with the Downtown Development Authority to create the holiday light displays in downtown Royal Oak.
This year’s display features more than 125,000 LED lights in varying shades of pink, green, red and Caribbean blue. Additionally, color-changing orbs will hang on the large trees throughout the downtown area. These orbs are custom-designed for the City and not available anywhere else in Michigan.
Sterling says, “It’s a compliment to see people take pictures of our work and thank our workers. I enjoy being part of such a large project that many people can enjoy.”
Getting to the “flip of the switch” moment is no small feat. Weather can be very unpredictable for installation crews. “The weather is highly variable,” explains Sterling. “We can be working on warm, fall days, which are ideal, or work in snow and ice.
“Our installation crew does a great job at handling any obstacles of working in a vibrant downtown while turning a vision on paper to a fantastic experience for Royal Oak patrons.”
Come see this project first hand. The Lighting Ceremony for the City of Royal Oak is Saturday, December 14 at Dusk.
