Philodendron Monstera

Philodendron Monstera has become a bit of an icon in the plant world. Recognizable for its large split leaves, this plant or its likeness can be spotted pretty much everywhere. Monstera leaves start off solid and split as they mature. Native to Central America, these luscious tropical plants are low-maintenance and known for withstanding the severe downpours and windstorms of the rainforest. They are the perfect statement plant for your home.
Light
Monsteras do best with bright indirect light. Although they can tolerate lower lighting conditions, their growth will slow. Keep your plant protected from direct light. The leaves will get sunburned if exposed for too long.
You may notice your plant growing toward the light source, rotate it regularly to ensure even growth. If your plant is getting leggy, it needs brighter lighting conditions.
Water
Monsteras like to dry out a bit between waterings. When the top few inches are dry to the touch give it a drink. If you notice brown tips your plant needs more water, if you notice yellowing leaves your plant is too wet. During the Spring and Summer, while it is actively growing, keep the soil more on the moist side to help promote new growth.
Keeping your Monstera in a brightly lit bathroom or kitchen where humidity levels are higher will keep your plant happiest. Or consider adding a humidifier, humidity tray, or misting the leaves weekly to keep it thriving. Make sure to keep this plant away from large temperature fluctuations. It is a tropical plant and prefers temperatures between 65-85 degrees.
Fertilizer
Use a liquid balanced house plant fertilizer once a month during the Spring and Summer to keep your plant producing new leaves. Hold off on fertilizing during the fall and winter.
