The team at the Pantone Color Institute assesses the colors shown by designers at New York Fashion week every season. These colors are then used to create Pantone’s Fashion Color Report, which features the top ten trending colors for fall of 2017.
For the first time ever, Pantone created a color palette from both the runways of New York and London. Many of these colors are present in English Gardens fall annuals, perennials, house plants and container gardens.
Pantone incorporated many classic warm, autumn shades such as Autumn Maple. They also included many bold standout shades, such as Ballet Slipper, that pair well with other classic fall colors.
Tawny Port & Supertunia Black Cherry
Tawny port is elegant and sophisticated, just like Supertunia Black Cherry. Deep red petals are met with a dark, almost black middle. Black Cherry is an annual that constantly blooms and prefers full sun to partial sun.
Lemon Curry & Campfire Fireburst Bidens
Lemon Curry matches the spice of Campfire Fireburst Bidens! A yellow center quickly fades to scarlet at the petal tips. It is self-cleaning and does not require deadheading. Bidens are an annual that prefer full to partial sun.
Autumn Maple & Sunsatia Blood Orange
Autumn Maple is a classic fall color. Display Sunsatia Blood Orange in your hanging baskets or window boxes for a pastel to bright orange. It is an annual that prefers full to partial sun.
Royal Lilac & Soprano Purple Osteospermum
Purple is an unexpected color that could stand out in your fall landscape! Royal Lilac presents a theatrical connection to others colors in this palette, just like Soprano Purple Osteospermum. With short daisy like flowers, this annual is best planted in full to partial sun.
Flame Scarlet & Superbells Pomegranate Punch
Flame Scarlet is a striking, standout red-just like Superbells Pomegranate Punch! Bold red petals are met by a black center. Perfect for container gardens, this annual prefers partial sun.
Grenadine & Coleus
Grenadine is a dynamic red, much like the red in many Coleus leaves. Coleus can be incorporated into your beds or container gardens for fall interest. They are an annual that can thrive in full sun to shade.
Golden Lime & Croton Harvest Moon
Golden Lime is all the rage during fall and so are Crotons! Crotons are versatile tropical that can be incorporated into container gardens and brought inside before the first frost. They come in a wide range of colors and shapes, yet the Harvest Moon variety is most unique for its bright yellow and green coloring.
Ballet Slipper & Bromeliad
Ballet Slipper is a soft, subtle pink. Although Bromeliads come in a variety of colors, the most popular one is the light pink. This house plant requires a well-lit, bright windowsill and soil with sufficient drainage. If you choose water the bromeliad centrally, ensure you dump out any standing water from the bloom cup.
Copper Tan & Chrysanthemum
Bring warmth to your garden with copper colored Chrysanthemums, similar to Copper Tan. Mums are considered an annual by most, but can return year after year with proper care. Pair mums with ornamental grasses to create a contrast in texture.
Primose Pink & Autumn Joy Sedum
Sedum is an easy to grow succulent that looks great in an autumn landscape. As fall draws closer, Autumn Joy will bloom light pink flowers, similar to that of Primrose Pink. Plant this perennial in full sun with well-drained soil.
