House plants have many benefits. They clean the air, help keep you healthier and are great for adding some nature to your indoor space. Decorating with house plants is a great way to add texture, color, and vertical interest to your indoor decor.
FRONT ENTRY & FOYER
This is the first place a visitor will see when walking in your home and the spot that welcomes you home every day. No matter the space you have available, it is the perfect opportunity to show off your style and a great spot for focal point plants. Consider light levels and if you have a draft from the front door. These factors will determine what type of plants will do well here.
FIDDLE LEAF FIG trees are the perfect focal point plant. Boasting rich, glossy, green leaves, this plant is a piece of art on its own! Fiddle leaf fig trees are great for filling an empty space or gap in a room. Try one in a whimsical, colored pot or a wicker basket and let the sculpture-like branches instantly draw the eye. If your home has a lot of green décor or paint tones, your fiddle leaf fig will instantly enhance this design scheme.
Known for its broad, bright green leaves the MONSTERA is another décor favorite! As it grows, the leaves split and then begin to shape natural holes making for a truly unique sight. A cozy, sunny spot in your foyer is the perfect place for the Monstera to have room to grow. A smaller Monstera makes a great tabletop plant – perfect for a hallway or foyer credenza. Try this plant to add a pop of color to a neutral or monochromatic room.
KITCHEN
The kitchen is the heart of the home! From entertaining to gathering with family, this is where it all happens. Practical and functional are important here – easy-to-care-for plants brighten up the room and add life to any shape or size kitchen.
The ENGLISH IVY is a winner for the kitchen – it purifies the air and works hard to reduce a variety of indoor air pollutants, molds and bacteria. If your kitchen doesn’t get a lot of natural light, this plant is great. Try an English Ivy in a hanging basket or position high on a shelf above cabinets. Counter space is crucial in the kitchen so this will keep the plant up and out of your way.
Decorative and functional – growing HERBS in the kitchen is a no-brainer! You will have a huge variety to choose from and most can be enjoyed indoors year-round. Select a pot with drain holes for easy watering; and keep these positioned near a sunny window – that sill over your kitchen sink is the perfect spot! Colorful pots with fun sayings are a great fit for these beauties.
LIVING ROOM
Promoting comfort and warmth, the living room is a place for relaxation and rejuvenation. Interesting paint colors, wall art, area rugs and lighting all shape this room and a plant can be the perfect, low-maintenance highlight. Living room house plants vary in size and shape – thriving in small pots or growing to the size of small trees. Decide the goal of your space and take note of the conditions to decide which plant is best.
The PEACE LILY is easy to care for and thrives in low-light locations. This plant does well sitting on a console table or even on a table next to a window. Try a pot that matches your style or even create a winter garden that incorporates the peace lily and other plants. This trusty plant is the perfect way to bring some life to any space while helping to purify the air and promote a stress-free environment.
A tough, tropical tree, the RUBBER PLANT is low-maintenance and a home favorite. It prefers bright, indirect light so near a window with sheer curtains is a great spot for this to thrive. Did you know that their round leaves symbolize good fortune and abundance? Try your rubber plant in a bold colored ceramic pot to create a focal point in your living room.
BEDROOM
The bedroom is your sanctuary – a place to relax, unwind and get a good night’s sleep. Plants in the bedroom help to purify the air and trap many of the toxins in the air we breathe. Create a serene environment by decorating with plants that simultaneously promote a healthy sleeping environment. If you have children, a plant in the bedroom can help to promote a sense of calm in their space.
A long-time favorite for promoting serenity, the LAVENDER plant induces sleep thanks to its lovely fragrance. Position it on your bedside table to decrease stress and lower blood pressure. Lavender can be used to make your own arrangement or to be displayed in mason jars or wooden boxes. Try hanging a bundle of dried lavender upside down near your doorway. The beautiful purple color will add a nice pop of color to a neutral, minimal space.
Another crowd-pleaser, the PHILODENDRON, is the perfect indoor plant because it adapts to a variety of lighting and watering conditions. You won’t have to worry about this plant as it often thrives from being left alone! Plant a larger philodendron in a pot on the floor or a window sill. Smaller varieties, like the Heart Leaf, will love to hang from a ceiling or beam in a basket or grow their climbing leaves up on a shelf.

BATHROOM
Clean air and a fresh environment are crucial for your bathroom. Typically, this space is warm and humid which is the perfect environment for plants! However, it’s important to consider your room conditions – the bathroom can spend part of the day warm and humid but is often left cold and dark for hours at a time, especially at night.
An easy-to-grow, tropical perennial is ALOE VERA. This plant has a great tolerance for ever-changing temperatures indoors. And it’s super functional to have around! The juice from the leaves can be used to relieve pain and sunburn. Although it requires minimal care, be sure to keep it near lots of bright, indirect light. Try your Aloe Vera in a simple, terra cotta pot for a clean and fresh look.
Low light and high humidity make the bathroom the perfect spot for a FERN. In nature, these plants grow in filtered light (underneath the canopy of a tropical forest)! This environment is very similar to that of a bathroom. Place this plant in the corner to add some lush and low-maintenance décor. The bright green color really brightens up a bland and boring space.
SUNROOM
This room naturally receives a great amount of natural light making it the perfect home for a large variety of plants. A SUCCULENT and SPIDER PLANT will thrive here. Relax and unwind surrounded by these low-maintenance favorites. Try mini succulents arranged on your window sill or a Spider Plant on your side table. These plants provide a great opportunity to try a statement, patterned pot or a special plant stand. Make your sunroom an indoor jungle!
