Sterling Weber is one of the many talented designers at English Gardens Landscape Company. He’s won numerous awards, including a Silver Award from the Michigan Green Industry Association in 2017.
“I love developing creative ideas to fill the wants and needs of my clients,” says Sterling. “My philosophy is to stay creative, always try new ideas, and learn from the things that didn’t work.”
When we asked him for his favorite project from last year, he said: It is difficult to pick just one project that is my favorite, as I have many customers that I love working with year after year, and their yards are always evolving.
He shared one of his most memorable: A project for a long-time customer of English Gardens Landscaping. The customer purchased a home in Pleasant Ridge, and after a year living there, were ready to tackle the backyard landscaping.
“The backyard has been neglected for years and was quite a mess,” explains Sterling. “They had a short list of plants that, if possible, they would like to see in their yard. This was very helpful to help create the palate of colors and textures for their yard and if a certain plant they wanted wouldn’t work, I could take elements from those plants and use ones that would work.
“From there they trusted me to put a plan together that gave them the backyard they were looking for. We put in a flagstone patio that gives them space within their garden to sit and really enjoy their backyard. It really turned out great!
“I don’t think I’ve put so many different perennial varieties in a backyard before; they will have a great time watching their backyard change in the months to come!”
Sterling graduated from Lawrence Tech with a Bachelor of Science degree in architecture, and has been practicing landscape design for eight years.
