Aglaonema also called the Chinese Evergreen, is native to the Southeast Asian rainforest. They are slow-growing house plants that come in several varieties. They tend to grow in an upright, bushy habit and can adapt to most indoor conditions, making them the great for new and seasoned plant parents.
Like most plants, the Chinese Evergreen prefers bright, indirect light. However, it will adjust to just about any lighting condition. Some varieties will even thrive in darker corners or windowless hallways.
Because it is used to growing under the dense rainforest canopy, it will not tolerate direct light. Keep your plant a few feet away from windows to prevent the leaves from sorching.
Aglaonema plants are very slow drinkers and they like to dry out between waterings. Allow the soil to dry out 2/3 of the way down before watering it again. For some sizes, this may mean watering monthly or less.
Make sure your Chinese Evergreen has well-draining soil. It is important for the health of the roots that the plant not become overly saturated.
Use a half-strength all-purpose fertilizer two times a year on your Aglaonema. Do not fertilizer in the Fall and Winter.
