Air Plants, also known as Tillandsia and are members of the bromeliad family. They are unique-looking, tiny house plants that can thrive just about anywhere in your home. Like their name says, Air Plants get their nutrients from water and air. They should never be planted in soil making them perfect for creating unique living displays or using in areas where other plants wouldn't thrive.

Light

Ideal conditions for Air Plants are bright, indirect light. Protect them from direct sunlight, as the leaves will dry out quickly and become cripsy. A south or north-facing window would be best. The more humid the environment the more direct light they can handle. Varieties with silver leaves can handle more direct light than those with green or colored foliage.

Water

Although Air Plants get nutrients from the air, they cannot survive on the air alone. They do require regular watering to prevent them from drying out. Misting your plants daily is one option, or you can soak them in the sink or a bucket of water for 5-10 minutes weekly. Submerge the whole plant, let soak, and gently shake off excess water before returning to their spot.

Fertilizer

Air Plants do not require much in the way of additional nutrients. Add a drop or two of balanced house plant fertilizer in the sink or bucket twice a year when watering should be sufficient to keep your Air Plants healthy and happy.
