Aloe Vera, sometimes called the medicine plant, is a succulent type plant filled with medicinal gel. The gel is great for treating topical injuries like cuts, burns, and scrapes, but can also be mixed into drinks to aid in digestive issues (never ingest aloe vera directly). Aloe makes a great house plant, especially in the kitchen, where burns can occur more frequently. These are easy-to-care-for plants the require minimal attention, making them great for beginning plant parents.

Light

Aloe Plants prefer bright indirect light. Placing them within a few feet of a window is ideal, although they can survive in medium lighting conditions they tend to get leggy.

Water

Aloe plants are succulents, meaning they don't require a lot in the way of water. You may find smaller plants require water more often than larger plants. Allow the soil to dry out completely before watering. Make sure the water runs through the bottom of the pot to get all the roots.

If your plant starts getting floppy, it is being over-watered. For a 6 inch plant, watering every 2-3 weeks during the spring and summer should be sufficient. Cut watering down to monthly during the fall and winter.

Fertilizer

Aloe Vera is not a heavy feeder. Fertilize once a month during the spring and summer with a 1/2 strength house plant fertilizer.
