Cast Iron Plants are a hardy low-maintenance plant for those with even the brownest of thumbs. They thrive in low lighting conditions and go for a long time without water making it great for the newbie or sometimes forgetful plant parent. The upright, dark green foliage will add some texture and color to any indoor space. These plants also do great outdoors in late Spring through early Fall.

Light

Cast Iron Plants can thrive in even the darkest of conditions, but low to medium light is ideal. Keep your plant away from bright direct light, they get sunburned easily.  These are great plants for corners or dark hallways.  If moving your plant outdoors for the summer, keep it in the shade.

Water

Cast Iron plants can tolerate a variety of extreme conditions, including drought. Allowing them to dry out between watering is best. Be careful not to overwater. They also enjoy high humidity, so creating a humidity tray, or giving the leaves a mist every week will keep your plant happy.  If leaves start to turn brown or yellow, your plant is most likely getting too much water. However, if just the tips are brown, it is a sign your plant is underwatered.

These plants can handle cold and heat extremely well, making them great for any room of your home.

Fertilizer

Because these plants are slow growers, they don't need a lot in terms of food. Use a water-soluble balanced fertilizer once a month during the Spring and Summer to help promote growth. There is no need to fertilize the rest of the year.
