Croton

Crotons are the perfect example of how colorful plants can be without flowers. These plants have variegated leaves in yellow, red, and green. Crotons do well indoors and will thrive outdoors during the warmer months. They are a great way to add pops of color to your home.

Light

Crotons need bright light to look their best. Placing them within 3 feet of a window will keep them happiest. If placing them outdoors during the summer, acclimate them to full sun slowly over a few weeks. Full sun will keep their colors vibrant.

Even with bright light indoors, you may notice your Croton's colors are a bit more muted. That is normal and they will brighten back up if you take them outdoors for the summer.

Water

Crotons need a lot of water to keep their foliage hydrated. Checking the soil routinely will help monitor how often to water. Although they like frequent waterings, they do not like to be overwatered. When the top 50% of the soil is dry, or turns a paper-bag-brown-color, give it a drink and make sure to remove any excess water from below the pot.

Because Croton is a tropical plant, it prefers a humid environment. Mist frequently to keep the plant's foliage from getting crispy.

Fertilizer

It is best to use a liquid plant food high in nitrogen and potassium for your Croton to keep its vibrant colors.  Feed your Crotons in early March, May, and July for best results. Avoiding feeding Crotons in fall and winter.
