Polka Dot Plant

Polka Dot Plants are a fun and colorful way to add some living decor to your home. They are hybridized specifically to create unique-looking foliage that ranges from light green to dark red and every combination in between. The Polka Dot Plant is native to Madagascar where it can grow up to 3 feet in height. The indoor varieties are much smaller, but still provide a colorful impact in your home.
Light
These plants are relatively low maintenance and establish quickly in most indoor environments. Bright, indirect light is ideal for the Polka Dot Plant, however, their variegation will start to fade to a light green the more sunlight they are exposed to. Lower lighting conditions will keep the variegation bright but will cause the plant to get leggy.
Keep your plant away from direct sunlight. The leaves are susceptible to sunburn. Placing them near a South or West facing window will keep them happiest.
Water
Polka Dot Plants prefer moist soil and to be watered when the top inch or two of soil is dry to the touch. Try not to let the soil get too dry. If the tips of the foliage start to curl or develop brown spots, your plant needs water more often. They are more forgiving when underwatered rather than over-watered. Overwatering is also a big concern for this plant. They can develop fungal disease easily if the soil is too soggy. Monitor the soil closely until a good watering schedule is developed to keep your plant happy.
Polka Dot Plants like humidity around 50%. Using a humidifier, drip tray or misting daily will keep your plant happy.
Fertilizer
Feed your Polka Dot Plant using a half-strength all-purpose fertilizer every two weeks from April through September. If you are growing from a propagation wait a few weeks for roots to establish before fertilizing.
