Swiss Cheese Philodendron

Swiss Cheese Philodendron are known for their heart-shaped leaves that develop holes as they grow. They can grow quite large and fill a space quickly. They are popular, easy-care plants that love to climb. A close relative of the Swiss Cheese Philodendron (Monstera deliciosa) is the Swiss Cheese Plant (Monstera adansonii), which tend to be smaller in size and also has leaves that develop holes as they grow. The name is often interchangeable and refers to both types of plants.

Light

Swiss Cheese Philodendrons can adjust to most lighting conditions. Although they prefer bright, indirect light, they can also adapt to low light conditions. If keeping your plant in low light, it may not develop holes as the leaves grow.

Keep your plant out of direct sunlight. The leaves will burn easily. If moving your plant outdoors for the summer, keep it in a shady location.

Water

Swiss Cheese Philodendron likes to dry out a bit between waterings. Give it a drink when the top 50% of the soil is dry. Water thoroughly and remove any standing water from the saucer below your plant.

Although misting isn't necessary, your Swiss Cheese Philodendron would be very happy with an occasional misting.

Fertilizer

Use a balanced liquid fertilizer monthly during Spring and Summer. Swiss Cheese Philodendrons aren't heavy feeders, so you can even reduce feedings to every other month.
