English Gardens is gearing up for its annual Ladybug Giveaway on Saturday, June 10. We will be giving away half a million ladybugs at all six of our full-service locations! Gardeners will receive one bag of 150 ladybugs free with any purchase. Limit one bag per household. While supplies last.

Ladybugs are a very popular form of organic pest control for your garden. They’re beneficial insects, eating aphids, spider mites, immature whiteflies and other soft-bodies insect pests. One bag of ladybugs can cover 150 square feet or approximately 10 shrubs.

For best results, release your ladybugs at dusk or the early evening when temperatures are cooler. If released during higher temperatures, it is likely your ladybugs will not stay in the garden. Spray a fine mist over plants before release, as well. This provides a source of hydration.

Product Spotlight: Beneficial Bug Houses

Ensure your ladybugs stick around with a Beneficial Insect House, now available at your local English Gardens. The multi-chamber construction of these houses attract a large variety of beneficial insects. The easy clean chamber allows for customizable chamber contents and easy clean out of any unwanted pests. Insert moss, dry grass and hay into the chambers to provide a soft, dry resting area for your beneficial insects.

Place the house near the area you would like your beneficial insects to protect — a flower bed, garden or blossoming tree. Hang the house at eye level on a secure fence to prevent movement during windy days. Also, ensure the house is facing away from the incoming patterns of rain as insects prefer warm, dry places.

Remember, be patient! Monitor your insect house daily for activity. Insects are often out foraging during the day and may not return until nightfall.

Coloring Contest

Kids can color their #LadybugLove this Saturday at our annual Ladybug Giveaway and enter to win a garden kit! Simply have your child color their favorite ladybug at our coloring station and fill out their name, your phone number and email on the back. Take your ladybug to the cashiers and they will hang them up in the store. One lucky gardener will be drawn to receive a garden kit!
