English Gardens stores in Metro Detroit are raising funds for Forgotten Harvest in October with its “Round up your Purchase” program.
To raise funds, English Gardens is asking customers to round up their purchases to the nearest whole dollar amount or more. All of the money raised will be donated to Forgotten Harvest and their efforts to relieve hunger and prevent nutritious food waste. English Gardens fundraiser will be held October 1-31.
“We launched our ‘Round Up Your Purchase’ program in 2017, and it’s been well received by our customers,” says John Darin, English Gardens president. “We’ve partnered with Forgotten Harvest before to raise money for their efforts to reduce hungry throughout our area.”
English Gardens is a family-owned, Michigan business with locations throughout Metro Detroit. All five stores are participating in the program.
“Round up your Purchase” was launched in 2017, and has raised money to build a Tiny Home, a program with Cass Community Social Services, and the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute to support breast cancer research.
Oak Park, Michigan-based Forgotten Harvest was formed in 1990 to fight two problems: hunger and waste. Forgotten Harvest “rescued” over 41.5 million pounds of food last year by collecting surplus prepared and perishable food from over 800 locations, including grocery stores, fruit and vegetable markets, restaurants, caterers, dairies, farmers, wholesale food distributors and other Health Department-approved sources. This donated food, which would otherwise go to waste, is delivered free-of-charge to 250+ emergency food providers in the metro Detroit area.
