With the extreme weather predicted for the days ahead, our floral expert, Debbie Purdue, has given us a few tips on how to get your Valentine’s Day flowers home safely.
Here are a few tips to protect your flowers:
- Keep flowers away from the sunlight, a heat source, freezing temperatures, and fruit.
- If the temperatures outside reach under 25 degrees:
- Make sure your flowers are protected in a paper sleeve, even if they are wrapped in plastic.
- Don’t leave flowers in an unheated vehicle or outside. If you have other errands to run, dropping your flowers off at home first or coming back to English Gardens to pick them up will ensure their safety.
- Flowers are best placed in the back seat of a vehicle. The front seat may be too warm with the vents blowing hot air on them, and the trunk or back of an SUV may be too cold.
- Do not store your flowers in the refrigerator, because many fruits are toxic for flowers and will cause premature wilting.
- If you’re picking up and delivering an arrangement to a Valentine or friend right away, keep them away from a heat source, and do not expose them to temperatures below 35 degrees.
