People who work at English Gardens have, of course, a passion for anything green, flowering and naturally beautiful. This is the first post in a series, featuring a selection of our favorite flowers and plants.
Here is a selection of Frank’s favorite plants:
SunPatiens Royal Magenta
Bloom Time: Planting to Frost.
Sun Exposure: Part Sun to Sun.
Deadheading Not Necessary.
The compact SunPatiens are great for landscapes and containers. They’re also the number one plant to replace impatiens.
Begonia, Big Rose
Bloom Time: Planting to Frost.
Sun Exposure: Shade to Full Sun.
Resists Deer.
This is the largest, most vigorous begonia out there! It’s low-maintenance too, as it does not require deadheading and will thrive in both shade and full sun. The bright pinkish red flowers add beautiful color to a companion in a container or on their own!
Superbells Double Rose and Grape Punch Calibrachoa hybrids
Bloom Time: Planting to Hard Frost.
Sun Exposure: Part Sun to Sun.
Deadheading Not Necessary.
Heat Tolerant.
Whichever color you choose, these low-maintenance plants have continuous blooms through fall, offering vibrant color all season long. The flowers are abundant, small double petunia-like blossoms. They have a cascading growth pattern, making them a beautiful choice for containers.
Supertunia Royal Velvet and Vista Bubblegum Petunia hybrids
Bloom Time: Planting to Hard Frost.

Attracts Butterflies and Hummingbirds.
Supertunias are always a favorite. They’re versatile (ideal for window boxes, landscape beds and containers) rebloomers with dainty blossoms.
Lobelia-Laguna Sky Blue
Bloom Time: Planting to Frost.
Sun Exposure: Part Sun to Sun.
Deadheading Not Necessary.
Attracts Butterflies.
Whether it’s planted with others or on its own, the lobelia’s soft blue flowers will make an impact. The blooms will last all season long too, with a wonderful cascading habit.
Nicotiana-Lime Green
Bloom Time: Late Summer to Early Fall.
Sun Exposure: Sun to Full Sun.
Attracts Butterflies.
Starry chartreuse petals blossom atop the lush foliage of this Nicotiana. The plant can reach up to 48 inches high, making it a thriller if planting in a container.
Heliotrope
Bloom Time: Planting to Frost.
Sun Exposure: Sun to Full Sun.
Attracts Butterflies, Hummingbirds and Birds.
Native to North America.
This type of Heliotrope has a soft fragrance, giving you sweet notes of sugar and almonds. If you pinch the plants, it will encourage branching.
Geranium-Calliope Rose
Bloom Time: Planting to Frost.
Sun Exposure: Part Sun to Full Sun.
Deer Resistant.
Calliope Geraniums combine the best features of ivy and geraniums: Drought-tolerance, semi-trailing habits and a mounding habit that quickly fills a container or hanging basket. The flowers, are of course, their best feature. The blossoms have a stunning semi-double flower.
