Two main types of natural wood mulch include: 100% tree bark and mulch from a combination of bark and the wood of the tree. Here’s the difference:

100% All Bark Mulch
Benefits:

• • Longer lasting – Bark takes longer to decompose than the heartwood of the tree
  • Better looking – Bark nuggets are a little more uniform in size and shape. Shredded products look like Angel Hair with no visible chunks of wood.

• • Western Chunk Bark Mulch

Western Chunk Bark comes in three different nugget sizes – large, medium, and small. This is determined based on aesthetic preference. This is one of the longest lasting mulches, ranging from 5 to 10 years before it decomposes.

   Types

• • Pine Bark Mulch

Pine Bark is long lasting and when it breaks down it enriches the soil with organic material.  This product is generally lighter brown in color.

Hardwood decomposes faster to provide extra nutrients to your plants and soil. It usually has a dark brown or black color.

• • Cypress Mulch

Cypress Mulch comes from the bark and wood of Cypress trees. The bark contains oils that help repel insects. 

• • Ultra Scape Classic Color Enhanced Mulch

Classic Color Enhanced Mulch is dyed wood mulch that comes in three different colors: Classic Black, Classic Brown, or Classic Red. It is dyed with food grade die that lasts and the color lasts up to one year.
