Fall color is just around the corner. Our nursery experts have come up with some great plants to transform your garden into an autumn paradise. Here’s our list of the top 10 plants for your Fall garden:

Shrubs

1. Burning Bush: With brilliant color, this shrub changes from green to firey red color if planted in full sunlight. Burning bush is great for foundation planting and as a privacy hedge. Grows between 4 to 10 feet tall.

2. Fothergilla: A beautiful accent plant, fothergilla produces a wide range of fall color in shades of yellow, orange, red or purple.  It grows in full sun to mostly shade and in the early spring will yield white bottle-brush flowers before the leaves emerge. Grows between 2 to 6 feet tall.

3. Viburnum: As a special contribution to the garden, viburnum accents the fall setting with burgundy red foliage.  This plant grows best in full to partial sun.  In Spring, it bears white flowers. A few of the varieties are very fragrant.; most however, are not very fragrant.  It grows 6 to 12 feet tall and wide.

4. Witchhazel: For a woodland accent, witch hazel brings yellow, orange, red or purple to your fall garden, growing 10 to 20 feet tall and wide, depending on variety. Most varieties will bloom late winter to very early spring on bare branches.

5. Oakleaf Hydrangea: A popular accent and foundation plant, oakleaf hydrangeas captivate the Fall garden with burgundy to purple foliage. Flowers are white and conical in spring and age to pink and then brown in the fall. With interesting peeling bark in the winter, oakleaf hydrangea grows 6 to 12 feet tall and wide.

6. Barberry: For a hedge or accent, barberry shrubs have brilliant red or orange  foliage color in the fall. It grows 1 to 6 feet tall and wide, depending on variety. Spring

7. Spirea: A delicate and captivating accent to your borders! Spirea illuminates the Fall season with a range of color from yellows to burgundy. The spring-flowering varieties bloom white flowers, while the summer-flowering types vary shades of pink, red or white. Grows between 2 to 10 feet tall and wide, depending on variety.

Trees

8. Black Gum: For an attractive accent, black gum is a very slow growing tree with amazing red fall color. In the spring, the glossy green leaves are tinged with red. Grows 40 to 50 feet tall and wide.

9. Franklin Tree: A showy spectacle for your garden. Franklin trees offer dazzling red fall color. Shortly before it displays its fall show, it blooms unique white flowers. This slow growing garden accent will grow 15 to 20 feet tall and wide.

• Japanese Maples: Most red varieties have very bright red colors in the Fall, whereas most green varieties have a yellow or orange fall color. The weeping varieties can grow up to 6 feet tall. Upright varieties can grow up to 15 feet tall.

• Sugar Maples: With vibrant yellows and oranges in the fall, this large-growing shade tree can grow 5o to 60 feet tall and wide.

• Red Maples: Ranging in orange to red fall color, red maples are large-growing shade trees, reaching 50 to 60 feet tall.

• Paperbark Maples: This remarkable maple has beautiful red fall color and incredible cinnamon-brown peeling bark. Grows 20 to 25 feet tall.
