Planning a wedding is one of the biggest events of your life. The perfect wedding is easier to achieve than you might believe!
Here are some of the latest wedding trends, shared by Wendy Dahl, Chief Inspiration Officer at wedding and events powerhouse Chic Productions.
1. Variety is in
Weddings are featuring a variety of styles in one room. Guest tables may be different shapes and sizes, and feature floral arrangements with multiple textures and a variety of containers. The color theme ties them all together.
Eclectic collections of items – such as dishes or floral arrangements – that don’t look like they would go well together, but actually do, are becoming popular. It takes time to curate, but the payoff is worth it.
If your tastes are varied, don’t stress about choosing just one. Incorporate all! Just make sure you work with a floral designer to ensure your materials and styles work together.
2. Elegance is Key
Weddings are economy-driven. As the economy improves, so does the style and scale of the event.
Layers of lines, different tablescapes, mixing looks are trending. A contemporary look features natural with glam — out with burlap, in with suede and chiffon.
Many weddings are going for a classic contemporary look. Mix time periods, and tie together traditional and modern looks with a common theme to create a memorable image.
3. The King’s Table
Traditionally, the bride and groom sit with their main wedding party at the head of a room at a table raised slightly above everyone else. This approach is being replaced by the King’s Table.
Place the King’s Tables in the center of the room, level with the guest tables. Long garlands run down the center of the table, creating a beautiful and distinguished look.
Often, VIP tables will be assigned directly around the King’s Table with a slightly more elaborate design than the other guest tables.
4. Keepin’ it Photogenic
Photography and videography are planned in advance and the environment is designed to capture the beauty of the event forever.
Each element of the wedding is carefully planned so photos show the meticulous design.
In some instances, clothing color palettes are provided for the guests so everyone coordinates with the wedding party. VIP tables around the dance floor feature extra décor to enhance the background.
5. All Natural
Pantone has named Greenery the Color of the Year for 2017, and weddings are reflecting that.
Nature is elegant; nature has variety; nature is photogenic. Green is refreshing and symbolic of new beginnings.
Green is a highly impactful color in design, when used correctly. Plants and garlands provide a beautiful, peaceful presence wherever they are placed.
Receptions are moving to more settings where the guests can feel more comfortable. What’s more comfortable than a garden? The number of outdoor and garden receptions is growing, because they are natural, photogenic, and more relaxed than a hall.
What If?
Above all, the key is to be brave and bold, and to not limit yourself. Dahl said her favorite way to start planning is by asking, “What if?”
“Start thinking that the box doesn’t exist,” Dahl said. “Because it really doesn’t.”
