Spend your afternoon creating a beautiful terrarium that will add warmth and color to your home. Whether you are planting for yourself or with your family, creating a terrarium is a fun, creative and interactive experience to do on a chilly winter day! 

Terrariums can be made with succulents, ferns, mosses, and decorations. With proper care, they can last for years. To help narrow (or widen!) your search for perfect plants, we’ve highlighted a few. 

High in demand, Air Plants are a unique addition to your terrarium. These plants are stunning, with beautiful variations of blue, gray and green, and spectacular bright pink, purple and yellow flowers. They are a great choice for both color and texture.

Any variety of dwarf evergreen, moss or grass will also add texture to the bottom of your terrarium.  These plants can also be used to edge a path in a miniature landscape you’ve created.

Butter Lemon Ferns will add bright green hues and texture to your terrarium. They are elegant and delicate, as well as whimsical!

Newcomers to ivy will appreciate the much less finicky Ficus pumila. This ivy will eagerly climb, while withstanding aggressive trimming. 

Moonvalley plants are a part of the Pilea family, a varied group of upright and trailing plants. To encourage a compact, fuller plant (ideal for a terrarium), pinch off growing tips every so often.

Pteris Ferns are a beautiful, multi-colored and multi-faceted plant. Adding these to your terrarium will add a beautiful mix of light yellows and greens, as well as a variety of height and texture. This plant is delicate yet hardy.

For a pop of color, Polka Dot Plants are the way to go. They are a lively plant, in brilliant shades of green, pink and red. These plants are cheerful and easy to take care of. 

Birds Nest Ferns are the perfect bright, almost translucent, green to add to your terrarium. They will remain perfectly healthy if they are provided with enough warmth and moisture – which are both attributes of a terrarium!
