Spring has arrived…finally. With it comes warmer temperatures and more time outdoors. Gardening is a great way to stay grounded and connected to nature. Spending time outdoors with plants and flowers helps reduce stress and improves our moods.
As we all spend more time at home with our families, we’ve developed a list of our favorite ways to celebrate Spring.
Plan your Spring Garden
Fresh shipments of spring annuals and perennials are beginning to arrive. Look around your garden and remove anything overgrown and clear space for new plants and flowers. Consider starting a garden journal to document your ideas, plants and new additions.

Document your garden’s progression with a photo diary. Gardens change rapidly this time of year. Take photos once a week to chart the changes. Use these photos to compare your garden season to season and year to year.
Plant Something Inside
Get ready for the gardening season by planting seeds indoors. This is a great family activity. Have everyone select their favorite vegetables and plant a veggie garden. Add a few flowers to start from seed to plant around the border. Read more on Seed Starting Indoors here.
Plant Something Outside
The gardening season is here, so get out there to play in the dirt. Wait until the ground has completely thawed and is mostly dry. Take care when walking on your soggy lawn. Plant pansies in container gardens to decorate the front porch or garden beds.
Onion sets are available now for planting. Cold-season veggie plants will arrive in the store by the end of the month.
Pick up a bunch of Daffodils
The daffodil is said to add joy and good fortune to your home. What better way to start your Spring than with fresh flowers.
Eat Outdoors
As soon as the weather warms up we are always looking for ways to get outside. Planning a meal or two in the Spring sunshine will help those winter blues fade away. Dust off the patio furniture or use a blanket on the porch or grass. Keep it simple and make the most of those early spring days.
Decorate your home
Spruce up your home by adding some Spring color. Start simple by adding a bouquet of Spring flowers to your kitchen, or a Spring wreath to your door. Decorate your mantle, or hang Spring art on your walls. Take your regular decor and enhance it with pops of color. Bringing Spring indoors is a simple way to celebrate.
Do some Spring Cleaning
It’s time to clear out the old and welcome the new. Start small — open windows, air out blankets, bedding and rugs by hanging them on a clothesline. Clean any debris and over-wintered weeds from your garden. Rake up leaves. Remove mulch in garden beds. Cut back perennials, as well as dead or diseased branches. Get your home and yard ready for the season.
