English Gardens customers donated $7,600 to Forgotten Harvest this September. Throughout August and September, customers were able to round up their purchase to the nearest dollar or more to donate to Forgotten Harvest. To date, English Gardens has donated more than $41,000 to the local food bank thanks to the generous support of our customers. Our Change for Change Program will continue through the month of October benefitting the American Red Cross.
English Gardens stores in Metro Detroit are raising funds for Forgotten Harvest this September with our “Change for Change” program.
To raise funds, English Gardens is asking customers to round up their purchases to the nearest whole dollar amount or more. All of the money raised will be donated to Forgotten Harvest and their efforts to relieve hunger and prevent nutritious food waste. English Gardens fundraiser will be held thru September 30.
“We’ve been partnering with Forgotten Harvest for many years to raise money for their efforts to reduce hunger throughout our area,” says John Darin, English Gardens president. “This program is always well received by customers.”
Our “Change for Change” (previously “Round Up Your Purchase”) program was launched in 2017, and has raised money to build a Tiny Home, a program with Cass Community Social Services, and the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute to support breast cancer research.
Oak Park based Forgotten Harvest was formed in 1990 to fight two problems: hunger and waste. Forgotten Harvest “rescued” over 41.5 million pounds of food last year by collecting surplus prepared and perishable food from over 800 locations, including grocery stores, fruit and vegetable markets, restaurants, caterers, dairies, farmers, wholesale food distributors and other Health Department-approved sources. This donated food, which would otherwise go to waste, is delivered free-of-charge to 250+ emergency food providers in the metro Detroit area.
